Tavistock and Okehampton annual car parking season tickets are being reduced by up to 45% from April 1 - and in some cases will cost less than 70p a day - following a move by West Devon Borough Council to make parking more affordable.

Motorists will be able to park in town centre borough council car parks from as little as £1.10 per day as season tickets are reduced from £720 per year to just £400. Season tickets for parking in borough council car parks on the outskirts of town will now be £195 a year - working out at less than 70p a day. Rural car park season tickets will be £155 for the year.

West Devon Borough Councillor Robert Oxborough, Environment and Community Committee Chairman, said: "We hope that these substantial reductions will benefit those who work in the centre of Okehampton and Tavistock during the day.

"The decision to lower season ticket prices is a reflection of this Council's wider drive to offer value for money parking options, support local business, improve our town centres and aid the growth of the local economy."
