VOLUNTEERS are being sought from across Mid Devon for a road safety initiative aimed at reducing crashes involving young and inexperienced drivers.
Learn 2 Live informs Devon students and parents of the potential dangers on the county's roads caused by speeding, drink driving and distractions such as using mobile phones.
As well as offering advice, the scheme also examines the wider impact of a crash on the family and friends of those involved and on the emergency service personnel who have to deal with the aftermath of incidents.
The group does this by giving presentations and talks to students hosted by people who have had their relatives or friends killed or seriously injured in a crash to members of the emergency services.
Now Learn 2 Live is looking for more speakers to help with the presentations.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “The fact that this scheme deals with real events and real lives, make the sessions incredibly hard-hitting, but that is what has made Learn 2 Live such a success.
“These presentations are about getting young people to think about the how the impact of a crash goes far beyond those in the vehicle at the time of the crash.”
You can get involved by attending the next event at Bicton College in Budleigh Salterton on January 24 (time TBC) or visiting www.learn-2-live.org.uk/events.php
