DEVON County Council is sponsoring the fifth Devon Celebration of Food festival, which launched yesterday (Thursday).
The festival is being supported through the council's sustainable tourism project, Discover Devon Naturally, which showcases high-quality local food and drink producers, restaurants, accommodation and farm shops on a national basis.
Council leader Brian Greenslade said: "We're pleased to support the festival, which will show a phenomenal range and quality of food and drink produced in Devon to a wide and appreciative audience.
"We're committed to sustainable tourism and developing opportunities for local producers to market their goods on an ever expanding basis.
"Project RAFAEL, for instance, has been creating international links to give food producers a competitive edge in the overseas markets.
"Locally, we've been working in partnership to profile green and environmentally sensitive tourism opportunities, and to help businesses move towards renewable energy and sustainable business strategies.
"The council itself is working towards reducing its own food miles, examining ways to increase the amount of food sourced locally and seasonally, and promoting the buy local, eat healthily message wherever we can.
"The festival is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in food to meet the producers, learn more about our county's food and drink, and, probably most importantly, try a few samples!"
The festival runs throughout October with opportunities ranging from chocolate letterboxing to Beer and Banger days, food safaris and wine tasting.
