NINE members of the King's College Royal Marine detachment have won the Sir Steuart Pringle Trophy for a remarkable third year running.

All 18 CCF Royal Marines detachments from schools across the UK send a team to CTCRM Lympstone to compete for the highly prestigious award over two gruelling days, in which the cadets are put through stances designed to test the CCF Cadet syllabus.

The competition is intense, with only a few hours' sleep for the cadets each night.

The first day is spent being assessed on nine different tasks, set at the level of a recruit in his 28th week of training, while the second day includes tests on drill and endurance.

The team won of the stances - fire control orders, weapon handling, observation and drill – and overall they won the competition by a substantial margin.

Headmaster Richard Biggs said "To win this extremely competitive and highly coveted trophy three years in a row is a quite remarkable achievement.

β€œIt reflects great credit on the boys themselves and to those who train them in our CCF week by week throughout the year."

The victorious team, from left, are: back, Tom Sylvester, Ralph Lawson, Rob Ellis (Section Commander), Patrick Cartwright, Conor McAndie; front, Will Johnson, Simon Chicken, Lieut Steve King (staff), Capt. Peter Belfield (staff), Rob Duncan and Will Bishop.
