PEOPLE in the Taunton and Wellington area may not be the most romantic in the country, but we’re among the fittest.

We and the rest of the South-West each spend just £78 a month on our loved ones, way below the national average, according to research from Standard Life.

But we can hardly be accused of being couch potatoes as we pay £35 a month on the gym, just less than Londoners, and a similar amount on subscription TV, the lowest in the country.

And we’re the least spendthrift people in the UK, with regular financial commitments, including household bills and savings, of £833 a month.

Standard Life’s John Lawson said: “Understanding how our emotional and financial commitments are linked and how they are likely to change at each life stage makes it easier to plan ahead.

“It is vital that people engage with their personal finances and their emotional relationships as one single entity and plan their finances to support their aspirations and goals in life.”
