MID Devon council have voted to write to Prime Minister David Cameron urging him to reverse the huge cuts planned for Sure Start.
Sure Start was set up in 1998 to give children from the poorest families ‘the best possible start in life’.
The motion was moved by Lib Dem Group Leader, Cllr Paul Williams, at a full council meeting.
He said more than 250 children’s centres face closure, 2,000 more expect to provide a reduced service and staff at 1,000 more have been issued with ‘at risk of redundancy notices.
Cllr Williams said: "The most important thing any of us do, is bringing up our children.
"Not just our own but the children of our community."
