Unemployment in Cornwall is at an all-time low and there is every possibility it will get better despite forecasts by some pundits that manufacturing is going into recession.
Figures show that in Kerrier the total number of people registered out of work totalled 1,411 or 3.8 per cent. Compared with the same period last year when 1,944 or 5.2 per cent were registered out of work it is a marked improvement.
Cornwall as a whole now has an unemployment rate of 3.2 per cent, a fraction above the national average which stands at 3.1 per cent.
Broken down into areas, Redruth and Camborne now has less than 1,000 people on the unemployment register (932) compared with 1,233 for the corresponding period last year.
In neighbouring Carrick the unemployment figure stands at 1,226 or 2.8 per cent, compared with 1,807 (4.1 per cent) for the same period last year.
In Cornwall, the overall unemployment figure stands at 3.2 per cent, (6,815) compared with 8,840 for the same period last year.
