FESTIVITIES galore took place on Saturday at St Agnes when people took to the streets in colourful costumes and floats.

The carnival procession on Saturday, which assembled at Enys Park, was a great success despite a deluge of rain which came down when the judges were marking.

Spirits remained high however, and the imaginatively dressed children seemed happy to ignore the bad weather.

A large entry list meant that there was a great deal for the spectators to see and this created much entertainment.

Mock star appearances included Mr and Mrs Meek who dressed up as a slightly older version of Posh and Becks.

One group entered as the Millennium Dome, but fortunately this group was not pulled down.

The first event was the children under-eight walkers, followed by the children pair walkers which was keenly contested and set the pace for the day.

Mrs K. Mitchell performed the ritual of crowning the St Agnes Cornwall Queen and she presented the Queen and attendants with their own chalices.

In the evening holiday makers and residents watched a concert in Churchtown Square.

The bands included the St Agnes Silver band, the Mount Charles band, and the Lanner District and Silver band.

Philip Hunt compered the concert and the carnival was organised by the St Agnes Carnival Committee.
