THE 38th annual Illogan Horticultural and Domestic Show was held in glorious sunshine.

This was probably the last time the show will be staged in Illogan Village Hall, as the committee has been successful in its bid for the old infants' school in Illogan.. Presentation of the awards was by Mrs Pam Douglas, a past Illogan WI president and musical entertainment was provided by Illogan Sparnon Band.

As usual the refreshment ladies did a roaring trade in cream teas, sponges and savouries, but squash was the preferred beverage this year above tea, because of the heat of the sun!

Although the quality of exhibits was as high as ever, the number of entries once again dropped this year in nearly all classes. In particular the fall in entries in the fruit and vegetable section and the flowers and shrubs section was extremely disappointing. Wine section entries remained constant and Mr Tim Uren had added competition for the second year running. However, he still walked away with the cup for most points in the section! The domestic section showed a slight rise in entry numbers and, as usual, the number of entries in the two "recipe given" classes was particularly good. Pot plants was another section where entries remained constant as did those in the handicraft classes.
