DISRUPTED by the weather after early afternoon rain at Cape Road, the overs were reduced to 38 in the Premier Division match between St Just and Troon, the visitors mustering 211-7, a respectable total in the circumstances.

Confusion reigned at the end of the match over the points, most settling for an 18-5 award, but the umpires returned back two points to Just after being penalised for a slow over rate.

The highlight of the match for Troon was a fine century by opening batsmen Alan Shears who dispatched the ball to the boundary on 15 occasions.

Troon need points to stay out of the bottom two places. Helston look set for the bottom spot, but neither Falmouth nor Penzance will want to finish ninth although Penzance should be safe.

Taking first knock, Angove was removed for three, caught by May off the pace bowling of Cornelius.

Alan Shears dominated Troon's score while Jenkin and Osborne were out for modest scores.

Jason Weeks, batting at five, added 66 very valuable runs with a six and seven fours before he edged to Thomas from a Trenwith delivery.

Shears with Richards (S) added 58 for the sixth wicket, another good stand, but Thomas eventually removed Shears after the loyal Troon opener had hit six sixes and nine fours in an innings that looked to have won the match with Troon well set at 195-6.

Third change bowler Gareth May, son of rugby referee, Tommy, removed Shears caught by Smitheram the home skipper to leave Troon 211-7 after 38 overs.

St Just lost Kevin Hall early on to a good Strick delivery, but Gary Thomas hit a bold 31 in a second wicket stand of 61 with patient opening bat Jason Hall.

Cleighton Cornelius really swung his bat with three sixes and five fours. He was the third home batsman to be run out when he had reached 70.

Jason Hall hit seven fours in his not out 66 for a five-wicket win off 31 overs to take 18 points, a deserved home win on the day.
