A new Agricultural Wages Order comes into effect on October 1. As a result the minimum rate for an adult standard worker will increase from £4.57 an hour to £4.77 an hour with other rates, except those for casual workers, which is currently £3.73 per hour, increased to £4.10 an hour, in line with the National Minimum Wage (NMW). The rate for pre-college students aged 22 and over will be raised to £4.10 in line with the NMW.
Since the proposals were issued, the Government has announced that the National Minimum Wage rate for young people will be raised from £3.20 to £3.50 an hour. This rate will apply to casual workers and pre-college students who are aged 18 instead of the lower rates that were contained in the Board's original proposals.
