SEBASTIAN Coe, double Olympic champion and Chair of the London Organising Committee of the 2012 Olympic Games, visited Willand Primary School this lunchtime.

Lord Coe is on a tour of the South-West to see for himself the impact of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games across the region and the work being undertaken in the build up to the Games in Devon.

He said: “The visit to Devon demonstrates much of what we wanted the Games to be when we bid for them – the marriage of sport, culture and education.

“I’m thrilled that the region has seen the opportunities offered by London 2012 and is grabbing them with both hands.”

Guy Lavender, South-West England Director for the 2012 Games said: “The London 2012 Games are not just about sport, they are about transforming people’s lives and revitalising communities.

“The Games represents the single most important opportunity in our lifetime to build on the strengths of the region, involve whole communities, increase participation in sports and inspire young people to be the very best they can be.”

Willand school is currently working towards becoming a Green Flag Eco-school and the first school in the South-West to become a member of London 2012’s Get Set network.

The network is designed to help children and young people learn more about the London 2012 Games and to get involved in the excitement and inspiration of the Games.
