DEAF children and their families from across Devon are invited to a free of charge ‘Regional Fun Day’ organised by the National Deaf Children’s Society.
It will be held at Animal Farm Adventure Park, Red Road, Berrow, Burnham-on-Sea, TA8 2RW, this Saturday (July 11) from 10am to 4pm.
A spokesperson said: “The fun day is a source of powerful support for families with deaf children and helps them build a positive view of deafness.
“At this Phonak-sponsored event parents with deaf children have the opportunity to meet other families and share knowledge and experiences of bringing up a deaf child.
“Children and their siblings can take part in a variety of activities suitable for all age groups including arts and craft sessions, mini Olympics and giant family games.
“The NDCS Listening Bus will also be rolling in for deaf children to try out the latest technology to aid communication.
“Parents will have the opportunity to meet a range of exhibitors who can provide them with the information on childhood deafness and pick up free NDCS publications.”
Susan Daniels, NDCS Chief Executive, added: “We know that many deaf children and young people find it difficult to participate in out of school activities because they are not set up to provide good communication.
“At this fully accessible event deaf children and young people along with their parents will have the opportunity to get together, share experiences, and have fun together.
“I would therefore urge families with deaf children in Devon to come along to the NDCS Regional Fun Day as this day is especially for them.
“Parents will have opportunities to seek reassurance, meet other families and discuss their concerns are more likely to develop warm family relationships which in turn lead to higher levels of confidence and self esteem among their deaf children.”
Families wishing to attend the NDCS regional fun days must register their place before the day. For more information about the event, and how to register a place visit www.ndcs.org.uk/fundays
