PLANS to build a wind turbine in the car park of Tesco’s in Tiverton were recommended for approval by the town council on Monday.
The supermarket says the 10.6 metre turbine would generate six kilowatts of electricity, helping to cut costs and reduce the store’s carbon emissions.
Similar turbines are already in use at Tesco stores in Nottingham and Oldham.
Unlike traditional wind turbines, the proposed equipment rotates on a vertical axis.
The planning application now passes to Mid Devon District Council who will make the final decision.
