THE credit crunch has promoted an increase in inquiries to a transport scheme to help people access work and training.
Devon Wheels 2 Work is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, which helps people from rural areas of Devon get to their work place or training centre by arranging the hire of a motor scooter at a fraction of the normal cost.
Max Jowett of Devon Wheels 2 Work says the credit crunch is prompting more people to look at the Wheels 2 Work solution.
“It can be very difficult for people living in isolated areas where public transport is limited or non-existent and when they cannot afford to buy a vehicle of their own,” he said.
“They are often caught in a catch-22 situation where they can’t get a job because they don’t have a vehicle to get them to a place of work, and they can’t afford a vehicle because they don’t have a job.
“By hiring scooters we give people a chance to get started in employment, or to access the training they need.”
Wheels 2 Work can provide everything needed to get started from as little as £20 per week, including road tax, insurance and clothing.
Training can be arranged in the form of a one-day course which must be completed before a lease agreement can go ahead.
Service of the vehicle is undertaken by Devon Wheels 2 Work for the duration of the leased period. The organisation also operates both a full commercial sales side to the business - scooters, motorbikes, equipment, accessories -as well as servicing and MOT.
