A talented pupil from Taunton School has been awarded the prestigious Rotary Young Citizen Award.

Anthony Knight was recognised for his fundraising efforts for war victims in Ukraine.

Nominated by the Rotary Club of Taunton, the pupil raised a total of £14,000.

He played the violin in churches and care homes to raise the money for the DEC Ukraine Appeal which has gone on to ensure vital relief work is carried out in Ukraine.

Alan Reeves, a rotarian, said: "Anthony is a genuinely talented young musician who has already been accepted into the Royal College of Music.

"It is testament to Anthony’s generous spirit that he is using this talent for the benefit of others, performing both in Taunton and across Europe to raise important funds for the relief effort in Ukraine.

"It is an absolute pleasure to nominate him for a Rotary Young Citizen Award."

Anthony played pieces by Bach and Telemann, Anthony carried out 75 performances.

He continued his charity work by embarking on the first leg of a fundraising tour across Europe in 2023, playing at prestigious venues including Berlin’s Hotel Adlon Kempinski and The Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opera.

By the end of his Europe-wide musical journey in July, Anthony will have performed in 12 countries.

On April 20, the pupil was presented with his award at the Rotary Young Citizen Awards ceremony in Alcester, Warwickshire, by previous winners Bella Field and Katriona Goodsell.

He was chosen alongside eight other young individuals.
