Wiveliscombe Rugby Club are now well into their 150th anniversary season with ten matches now completed in the Western Counties West league, the highest league the club has played in since the formation of leagues.

The first and second fifteens started the season well with both teams situated in the upper half of their respective league but injuries during each teams last few games has taken their toll with results going the wrong way.

Despite that, close results have still meant loosing bonus points been secured keeping both teams in a mid table position.

The Clubs newly formed Ladies team are showing plenty of potential with good numbers turning up for training which is inturn having a good affect on results in the teams early seasons matches.

One of the clubs special events for the 150th anniversary takes place on this coming Sunday, November 27th when a selected club fifteen will host a team of Taunton School Old Boys in a game on the Wivey Rec.

Taunton School were Wiveliscombes first ever opponents back in 1872. The game will be preceded by a lunch attended by ex captains and officials affiliated to both clubs. The game kicks off at 2pm.

Wiveliscombe players that were involved with the club during the nineteen seventy two season will remember two people who alas are no longer with us.

Senior coach was David Hazell who played for England at prop and played a large part in Wiveys success at that time.

Scrum half Roger Smith had a huge influence on the players around him and had that special ability to assess the apponants strengths and weakness early in the game.

There will be many conversations remembering these great individuals this coming weekend.
