Firecracker gags at Comedy Hall

COMIC Phil Nichol, the subject of lavish praise from audiences and critics alike, headlines the Comedy Hall in Tiverton on Monday.

Comedy connoisseurs need little introduction to Nichol. In 2006 he won the much coveted if.commedies award - formerly the Perrier - the most prestigious award for comedy in the UK.

A bout of TV work followed, with Nichol appearing with Richard & Judy, Graham Norton, and panel shows including Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Have I Got News For You.

Nichol is a firecracker on stage, full of energy and manic wit that leaves an audience breathless and aching with laughter. He works an audience the way a ventriloquist works a puppet - drawing them into his world, and leaving jaws open as they wait for the next moment of brilliance.

But there's more to Nichol than energy and jokes. He is a quality actor that convinces an audience of his capabilities.

He recently starred in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest at the Gielgud Theatre with Christian Slater and in The Odd Couple at the Assembly Hall with Alan Davies and Bill Bailey.
