Fifty years of B&B

GWEN and John Adams, of Combas Farm Putsborough, near Braunton, are celebrating over 50 years providing Bed and Breakfast.

The couple, members of Devon Farms Accommodation, have witnessed many changes over the years.

Way back in the 1950s the welcome was just as warm but visitors weren't surprised if their stay involved getting a bit 'hands on'.

Said Gwen: "It now seems impossible to believe how basic life was then, and things like guests fetching their water from a pump in the kitchen was all part of the fun.

"While I cooked breakfasts, they would come down, pump their own water and then disappear up for a wash. It actually worked very well."
