AN Exeter-based occupational therapist has been working with young offenders for a special animation project later this month.
Helen Mason has been helping boys at the Ashfield Young Offenders Institute in Bristol produce an animated work based on carbon footprint, to be shown during the Animated Exeter festival at the Exeter Phoenix, on February 23.
Helen, who uses animation in therapy, taught the youngsters a range of skills during an intensive four-day programme.
She said: "Animation enables the creator and audience to project into a world where anything is possible and difficult issues can be explored within a safe environment.
"Animation can be used to build relationships between parent and child, encouraging child lead exploration.
"I have also found it useful with teenagers as a tool for motivation and to evoke change."
