PEOPLE in north Taunton are being asked for their views on plans for several affordable homes.

Taunton Deane Council is considering developing a site in the Enmore Road and Wellsprings Road area with homes for people who would find it difficult to buy or rent.

The council needs to deliver 564 affordable homes a year at a time when there are 4,368 on the council housing waiting list.

If the development gets the go ahead, it would have a mix of social rented and low-cost shared ownership without rent to pay on the unpurchased equity.

Locals are being asked for their views on three options: *20 three-bedroom rent or shared ownership houses along Enmore Road.

*10 three-bedroom and two two-bedroom flats in Enmore Road and ten houses and two two-bedroom flats along Wellsprings Road. Both would be for rent or shared ownership homes.

*16 three-bedroom homes for rent and shared ownership behind existing properties in Wellsprings Road and Enmore Road.

They are also being asked what type of new amenities they would like to see, such as play or youth facilities to improvements such as paths, seats and planting.

Cllr Hazel Prior-Sankey, Executive Councillor for Housing, said: "It's good to see possibilities for affordable housing coming forward.

"Residents' views are important and we'll await the outcome of the early consultation before proceeding.

"Any development would be subject to the full planning process."
