THE livestock market is to continue in Taunton at least until the end of the year.

It was due to close after business this Saturday following the construction of a one-stop agricultural centre at North Petherton.

But work on the new facility, the Sedgemoor Auction Centre, is still not completed, so markets will continue to be held in the county town for a few more weeks.

Taunton Market managing partner Robert Venner said: "It's a shame we haven't been able to finalise everything at the new site in time for the Christmas Show.

"We're still waiting for a date from the developer, but it is likely to be in the new year - maybe the first Saturday in January.

"It's disappointing, but you have to remember that the new site was still a Greenfield site in January."

But the annual fat stock market traditionally held in Taunton will take place in North Petherton on Monday.
