A CAREERS service has added its backing to the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards.

Connexions Somerset is among those contributing to the prize money of over £1,000, provides confidential advice, support information and guidance for 13-19-year-olds in Somerset.

They cover subjects including relationships, money, careers, housing, the law and voluntary activities.

Connexions Somerset Chief Executive, Peter Renshaw said: "We know that there are huge achievements made by young people all over Somerset.

"We want these young people to get recognition for these achievements as they really are something to be very proud of.

"I would encourage anyone who thinks they may know someone worthy of an award to make a nomination.

"Every day our personal advisers meet young people who are making a contribution to their community or excelling in a range of activities.

"Somerset can be proud of its young people and Connexions is pleased to support an event that celebrates and rewards these achievements."

The awards are being run by the Rotary Club of Taunton, the Newsquest Somerset and local radio station Orchard FM.

The prize fund has come from donations from the Rotary Club, Connexions Somerset and the Avon & Somerset Constabulary.

The awards will be presented at Somerset College's conference centre in Taunton, which has been provided free of charge by the college, on January 18.
