FOOTBALL World Cup winner Jack Charlton was the guest speaker at the Taunton Round Table Charity Dinner, when £19,000 was raised for local charities.

A record 450 tickets were sold for the event, which will support the Conquest Centre for Disabled Riders and several other local causes Rob Venner, of Greenslade Taylor Hunt, conducted an auction at the evening, sponsored by Albert Goodman accountants.

Taunton Round Table Chairman Jamie Holyday said: "This busy time of year for us is concluded with the forthcoming Christmas Carol Float, where local kids will be able to see the first sighting of Santa Claus for this year and the delivery of Christmas food parcels to local residents, often on their own at Christmas.

"We are always looking to help local charities as an organisation and with the success of this year's dinner we would be delighted to hear from any local charities who may be looking for funding."
