New crime prevention strategy for youth

AN INTEGRATED approach to tackling youth crime is the aim of a new youth crime prevention strategy being launched next month by The Youth Offending Partnership led by Devon County Council.

Children First is the name of the multi-agency strategy being launched at a conference being held in Dawlish. The strategy is the result of a collaborative approach between key agencies including the council, police, youth offending team to reduce the numbers of young people who enter the youth justice system or re-offend.

The conference will highlight the approaches Devon County Council and its partners are already taking to reduce crime.

Cllr John Smith, executive member for children and young people's services and chairman of Devon and Cornwall Police Authority, said: "This conference marks a significant milestone in the development of a partnership approach to tackling youth crime in Devon."
