A FORMAL investigation is to take place regarding Devon and Cornwall's Police and Crime Commissioner.
West Mercia Police has agreed to carry out an investigation into allegations over an expenses scandal involving Alison Hernandez.
It's under the direction and control of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
The investigation is into whether she failed to properly declare election expenses when employed as an election agent during the 2015 General Election.
The force is also investigating, on behalf of Devon and Cornwall Police, a linked allegation of improper electoral campaign spending returns within the Devon and Cornwall area.
At the time of the alleged offence Ms Hernandez was employed within the Torbay constituency as an election agent for the Conservative candidate. The allegations against her were referred to the IPCC by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner following her election as PCC on Saturday, May 7, and relates to a wider investigation being undertaken by Devon & Cornwall Police.
IPCC Deputy Chair Sarah Green said: "As Ms Hernandez is now a Police and Crime Commissioner, the IPCC will manage an investigation looking at whether she properly declared election expenses whilst acting as an election agent during the 2015 General Election. On completion of the investigation we will decide whether any matters should be referred to the Crown Prosecution Service for its consideration."
An extension to allow further time to investigate the other matter was granted at Chippenham Magistrates Court on May 19 following an application by Devon and Cornwall Police.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "As this investigation is in its' early stages no further information can be given at this time."
