ARE you interested in building your own home?

With the government drive to create more opportunities for people to build their own residences, Mid Devon District Council is asking people to get in touch if they are interested in building their own home.

The authority said it recognises the potential benefits of self-build in meeting the housing needs of Mid Devon residents.

It can represent a more affordable housing option for local people, support the construction industry and give people more choice in the housing market.

A Self Build Register is being put together to record the contact details and circumstances of potential self-builders, so the council can assess the level of interest and monitor how well it is meeting demand over time through the grant of planning permissions.

Cllr Richard Chesterton said: “We already know that many people are interested in building their own home, but we want to understand that demand better and provide opportunities for housing above and beyond the sorts of housing that are being offered by volume housebuilders.

“This is a good opportunity for residents to register their interest.”

The application form for the Self Build Register is available on the council’s website.

Visit www.mid d evon.gov.uk/ selfbuild.

It is designed to capture all the information the authority needs to understand the demand for selfbuild housing in Mid Devon, informing policies to improve the supply of land for custom build housing.

All personal information will be kept strictly confidential.

But you may be contacted when opportunities become available.

Your contact details might also passed on to landowners or builders who are providing custom housing, but only if it is clearly stated on the form that the council can use a person’s contact details in this way
