'THE best is yet to come' – that was the message from Silverton Street Market chairperson, Maxine Edwards to the event's organising committee, ahead of this year’s event.

The Street Market, which is takes place on Saturday, August 1 (10am-4pm), is a non-commercial venture that raises money for village organisations.

Last year, it made a profit of £7,114 and 11 groups benefited to the tune of £600 – and Maxine, a long term village resident, said: “This year, we want to do better - it's a great day.

“People come from all over Devon and further afield - it has been described as the best in the west.”

A wide range of food is available throughout the day, including a barbecue – and on the entertainment front, there is a special children's area with clowns, jugglers, magic shows, Punch and Judy, a bouncy castle and face painting.

There is even an opportunity to learn to juggle and practise circus skills.

Local brewery, Exe Valley Brewery, has supplied all of the village's pubs with a special beer for the occasion.

Live music will be on show throughout the day, allowing guest to take their pick from folk, rock, acoustic and the Crediton Town Band.

There will also be a special craft area, where local experts display their wares and explain their specialities.

Entry is £2.50 for each adult and 50p for children, while parking is free.
