ONE of Tiverton Swimming Club’s masters swimmers has been elected to become the next president of the Devon County Amateur Swimming Association.
Olympian swimmer Sue Haigh has taken up the position after being elected at the AGM held in May.
The Devon president is elected annually and chairs meetings of the Devon County swimming committees, as well as attending events throughout the county, presenting medals and trophies.
Sue’s many swimming achievements include being a member of the British international swim squad, swimming at the Mexico Olympics and at the Commonwealth games in both Jamaica and Edinburgh.
She has been the holder of the 400m freestyle European record and awarded ASA swimmer of the year.
Swimming as a Master with Tiverton Swimming club Haigh has held various titles along with British and European records from 2000 onwards and in 2012 she was the World Champion 400m freestyle swimmer.
There is a family connection with the role of Devon president, as Sue’s mother, Nancy Williams was also elected as president in 1979.
