A TIVERTON housing development has been shortlisted for three prestigious awards by the LABC, the body that represents local authority building control in England and Wales.

The redevelopment of the former Belmont Hospital site by Devonshire Homes has made the final in three categories of the South West region LABC Building Excellence Awards.

The first phases of the Gilbert Scott Way development are in the running for the Best High Volume New Housing Development Award.

The company’s work on Perreyman Court, the derelict hospital building that is Grade II listed, is recognised in the Best Change Of Use Of An Existing Building Or Conversion Award. In addition the Devonshire Homes site manager, Frankie Walsh, has also been shortlisted as LABC Site Supervisor of the Year.

Devonshire Homes was nominated for the awards by Mid Devon District Council’s building control officer, Robby Nott.

He said: "I've worked closely with Devonshire Homes over the past few years and their work at Gilbert Scott Way has been exceptional.

"The former hospital building threw up a wide range of problems, which we have worked hard to overcome.

“The result is a stunning listed building that has a lease of new life, alongside a range of new houses that meet or exceed the requirements of building control.

"I was delighted to nominate them for their achievements."

Steve Russell, Managing Director of Devonshire Homes, said: “When I look at the refurbished hospital building I feel an enormous sense of pride in what we’ve achieved. "The people of Tiverton have taken a keen interest in this development, and I believe these award nominations demonstrate that we’ve been able to turn a derelict eyesore into an attractive, welcoming place to live."
