A CONCERT tour replicating the 1978 national tour by The Clash visits Exeter Corn Exchange on Sunday, March 15.

The Clash included Exeter on their itinerary for their 1978 tour when they were taking the UK by storm as part of the punk rock explosion.

The promoter of the tour, John Hessenthaler, had to work against a backdrop of local authority opposition to the new music phenomenon but Exeter was one of the places which welcomed The Clash and their support act The Coventry Automatics, later to be known as The Specials.

He is now revisiting part of the tour and this includes the Corn Exchange date which will see Radio Clash recreating the sound and vision of the original band to perform the same set list The Clash performed in 1978.

The evening will also feature a set by Neville Staple of the Specials and his band to achieve as authentic a replication of that 1978 concert as possible Punk rock gave birth to many bands which evolved to become some of the biggest names in UK rock history and The Clash were probably right at the top of the list.

Sadly Joe Strummer is no longer with us but Radio Clash and the Neville Staple Band aim to bring back the spirit of 1978 both to old fans and all those who missed out and want to know what the fuss was all about.

Tickets, priced £22.50, are on sale from the venue box office on 01392 665938 or online at exeter.gov.uk/cornexchange
