AN APPEAL has gone out to local businesses to back Devon's biggest music festival, taking place this summer.

Mix XL '07 is organised by Devon County Council's music service, and is a musical extravaganza for pupils from Devon's 376 schools.

Now in its third year, the festival is going from strength to strength, with over 5,000 schoolchildren and teachers taking part.

The festival offers 78 concerts, workshops and performances from top international artists, and showcases some of Devon's brightest musical maestros.

Executive member for Children's Services, Cllr John Smith said: "Following two highly successful festivals, this year promises to be even bigger and better than before.

"This is a superb opportunity for local schools to get together and perform, experiment with music and see some of the country's top artists. "Music is such an important part of our culture and heritage, and we are pleased to be supporting events like this which encourage young people to celebrate their musical talents."

Local businesses are now being sought to back the event, either through cash sponsorship or by offering other support such as providing stewards on the day.

Event organiser Sally Raynes said: "This is a fabulous opportunity for local businesses to get behind Devon's communities and schools, and to have their name associated with a highly successful event.

"We are appealing to all local businesses across Devon, large and small, to get involved in this event, and will be pleased to discuss any offers of help."

Mix XL takes place Wednesday, June 27 at Westpoint, Exeter.
