GENEROUS sailors on deployment in the Royal Navy warship HMS Argyll have raised £1,700 to support colleagues in need.

Crew from the Plymouth-based ship has taken part in a variety of events during their deployment to support the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) that aims to improve the lives of all who serve their country.

During HMS Argyll’s visit to Baltimore in the US, as part of the Star Spangled Spectacular celebrations, the ship was open to over 5,000 enthusiastic guests who donated over £1,340.

The crew also took part in charity runs and bike rides in Bermuda.

The ship’s Executive Warrant Officer Tim Hamlyn said: ‘We knew, following the hospitality given to us, that the American public held us in great esteem, but nobody predicted such generosity.

"We are extremely grateful that they have dug deep into their pockets for the RNRMC’.

He added: “I knew we could capitalise on the event and made contact with the RNRMC prior to deploying requesting collection buckets and small items such as wristbands to give away. I’m very happy with how it went!”

HMS Argyll is deployed to the North Atlantic and Caribbean to provide reassurance, humanitarian aid and disaster relief support to the UK’s British Overseas Territories and other islands during the hurricane season.

HMS Argyll is also conducts counter-narcotics patrols with the UK’s National Crime Agency, the US Coast Guard and other partner nations to enhance regional security and deter illicit activity.
