A CONVOY of driving instructors and supporters passed through Tiverton last week as part of the Big Learner Relay, a national fundraiser that saw them travel the length of the country.

The convoy had a rendezvous at McDonalds in Tiverton to meet the Big Learner Relay lead car, Ian Kingdon Driver Trainer, arriving in convoy from South Molton with his pupil Mark.

Tiverton was supported by Sue Griggs, Mayor of Tiverton, her Beadle Alan Burnett and Cllr Neal Davey, who all gave up valuable time to support the cause.

Also supporting us was Dave Mitton, the Mayor of Wellington.

Janet Bernard, owner of Focus Driver Training in Wellington said: “A massive thank you to all who supported us driving instructors in the local legs of The Big Learner Relay which was the brain-child of Louise Walsh, an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) from Hampshire, who went on to organise a huge national fund raising activity for Children in Need.

“Louise’s ambition was to raise £5,000, but today the total raised stands at a huge £57,445.89, with a promise of more to come.

“The Big Learner Relay was a massive logistical task which was superbly managed by Louise and her team.

“The outcome was a huge sum of money being raised for Children in Need, a wonderful feeling of teamwork by all ADIs involved throughout the UK.”

Donations are still being accepted so if anyone would like to support this worthy cause, please do so either by texting PASS73 followed by your donation (eg £5) to 70073 or you can donate via the Big Learner Relay Just Giving page.
