WITHLEIGH Young Farmers Club celebrated 85 years of young farmers by holding an anniversary harvest supper dinner and dance at the Tiverton Hotel.

At the Hotel they enjoyed a three course meal, and the after dinner speakers were John Lee and Les Heywood. John Lee was both county and national chairman in his time in young farmers, where he was a member of Newton St Cyres, and in recent years he received an O.B.E for his services in agriculture.

Les Heywood a past member of Withleigh where he was club chairman and also county chairman, both of the guest speeches spoke about what they had gained in young farmers and encouraged members to do as many activities as they can in young farmers, as it will help gain confidence in there future life.

After the speeches was the presentation of the cups, where Eric Shapland presented the cups to the members, Eric Shapland was the oldest chairman present at the harvest supper, he was chairman in 1948.

There were eight different cups presented under 26 girls points cup which went to Sarah Henson, under 26 boys points cup which was present to Chris Pring, under 21 girl points cup that was presented to Hannah Land, under 21 boy points cup that was presented to Harry Rabjohns, under 16 points cup that was present to Dawn Radford the Sara Shield went to Chris Pring for the highest number of points over all.

There a challenge cup that went to Sarah Henson, an up and coming member cup that went to Olly Rabjohns and also a stock cup that went to Louise Kittow.

On August 31, Withleigh Young Farmers held there first charity ploughing match, where there was about 50 ploughs that attended the ploughing match. The event raised 600 pounds for there charity for the year which is farm community network.
