FOLLOWING the success of last year's event, there's two opportunities to join East Devon District Council's countryside team and local historian David Allen on a hunt for fungi.

Autumn is the best time of year to find fungal fruiting bodies, and this is a great chance to learn from an expert what’s tasty and what’s not, and what to avoid at all costs.

Identification of fungi is a very serious business; eating even small amounts of some types may be fatal, and mushrooms should never be regarded as edible unless they are definitely recognised as being so.

Fungal forays this autumn are on Monday, September 29 2-4pm at Knapp Copse Local Nature Reserve near Honiton, and Monday 13 October 2-4pm at Holyford Woods Local Nature Reserve near Colyford.

Numbers are limited, so advance booking is essential. The cost is £4 per person. To book, please call 01395 517557 or email Countryside@eastdevon.gov.uk
