CULLOMPTON residents have been given the opportunity help to choose the design and layout of a new development planned for the area to the north west of the town.

The area, to the north west of Cullompton, is allocated in Mid Devon's Development Plan for mixed housing and employment development.

The plans incorporate green infrastructure (open space with multiple environmental benefits) as well as community facilities - and is suitable for various uses such as sports facilities, allotments and wildlife habitats.

The masterplan will need to address a number of emerging issues - from the the amount and location of development within the site, to the proposed primary school and gypsy and traveller pitches.

Design teams representing the promoters of the site have put forward proposals for the Council to consider and consult upon and the Council is now asking residents for their views and ideas.

Richard Chesterton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration, said: “We really want to get people's opinions on this development proposal, which includes housing, an employment area, a primary school, and community facilities.

“Possible options have been put forward for development and I would urge anybody in the community to come and have their say on the development taking place in their town. You can view the consultation material online, at the council offices, in Cullompton, or come along to one of our public exhibitions.”

The consultation material is available on the website at www.middevon.gov.uk/masterplanning and at the Council's main office at the Phoenix House reception, Tiverton, Cullompton Town Hall, and at the Hayridge Library in Cullompton.

Public exhibitions for residents to learn more are being held at the Hayridge Library Cullompton: September 13 9am-1pm, September 24 3pm-7pm, October 2 5pm-9pm - and the consultation period starts on September 12.

The deadline for written responses to the consultation is October 12.
