A NEW club which offers Day Services for the elderly on the Devon and Somerset border has been launched.

The club known as 'Young at heart club' is open on Mondays and Fridays from 9.30am to 2.45pm and is based at Burlescombe.

The 'Young at heart club' was founded by a Wellington couple (Lloyd and Diana Yorke) who have worked as managers of a successful Day Centre for older people in Mid Devon.

They understand the needs and care required to run a successful day service.

Lloyd and Diana have created a unique club based on their previous practical knowledge. With over 8 years combined experience, they have learnt how to help older people feel relaxed and recapture their youth. The aim of the club is to bring together people of every background over the age of 60 to have fun, socialise, make new friends and feel part of the community.

Diana and Lloyd recognise the importance of providing Day Care to help relieve the feeling of loneliness and isolation.

They also feel that it is important for Carers to enjoy some respite. Lloyd said “Carers can leave their loved ones with us for the day knowing that they will be well looked after and fully entertained in a safe environment.”

The club is conveniently located to attract people from Cullompton, Tiverton and Wellington using the M5 and A38 corridor.

The club provides a full day of activities, providing fun and laughter. The activities are entertaining, stimulating, educational and creative, with the emphasis on fun. Members enjoy a delicious two course nutritional lunch, cooked on the premises using locally sourced produce. There is no membership joining fee and the day rate is only £15.

There are plenty of refreshments and biscuits served throughout the day.

Diana said “We are determined to provide a quality day service at an affordable cost to benefit the older people in our community.

"Our not-for-profit club membership is already growing from word of mouth referrals. We thank everyone who has helped us create this club and the valuable help from our volunteers and look forward to welcoming new members in the near future.”
