Heavy showers couldn’t dampen spirits at local Golf Day
9:23am Tuesday 8th July 2014 in News
EXETER Leukaemia Fund recently held their 17th annual golf day at Exeter Golf & Country Club, and even a couple of heavy showers couldn’t dampen spirits! Over 50 teams took part, and the event raised over £5,000!
The men’s winning team “Jorn's Wet Wipes” won with a score of 44 points, and the ladies team “Edwina’s Tigers” won with 39 points. Many of the teams have supported this event for several years, including a large group from Teignmouth Rugby Club!
Mags Naylor, CEO of ELF, said: “ELF achieved an amazing day of entertainment; friendly competition in a round of golf, excellent carvery lunch and bar, with an auction and prizes to be won throughout the day.
"Though the greatest achievement is the monies raised at the GOLF day, which helps patients and families across Devon who are affected by Leukaemia. Thank you to all who supported the event.”
ELF was delighted to welcome the main sponsor Sandicliffe Motor Contracts, who had the privilege of playing alongside the charity’s patron Steve Rider.
Steve also supported the event by entertaining the players with impromptu golfing stories, before he presided over the lively auction. Steve finished the evening with the presentation of the prizes to all the winners.
Mark Paver, of Jorn's Wet Wipes, said: “Our team were both thrilled and astonished to win. The ELF Golf Day is one of the first golf events to go into my diary every year, it is one of the best run & enjoyable golf events that you can attend during the year. We always look forward to seeing some familiar, friendly faces & it's always great to meet & see new faces, the ELF Charity Golf Day is such a special day.”
Warmest thanks to all the teams, volunteers and sponsors and donors of auction prizes who helped make the day special.
