Kingsbridge murder enquiry launched: UPDATE second man arrested

UPDATE: A 22-year-old man from Kingsbridge was arrested at 6.30pm yesterday (6 July) on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice. He remains in custody at Torquay police station.
The victim sustained a serious wound to the neck which may have been caused by glass, possibly a bottle, say police.

The victim has been named as Alex Peguero Sosa, aged 17, a student in the sixth form at Kingsbridge Community College.
Superintendent Chris Eastwood said: “This is a very difficult time for all concerned and our deepest sympathy goes out to Alex’s family and friends. Police are working closely with his family to provide emotional support following this tragic incident.
“We are working in partnership with the college to support students and staff and local officers will be at the school in the next few days to provide reassurance and assistance at this very sad time.
“The community is understandably in shock and coming to terms with this incident which is very rare in Kingsbridge.
Neighbourhood officers will be conducting reassurance patrols in the town over the coming days to support the local community.”
Detectives have launched a murder enquiry following the suspicious death of Alex Peguero Sosa in the early hours of Sunday.
Police and ambulance crews were called to Prince of Wales Road at 2.20am, July 6, following reports that the teenager had been injured during an altercation involving people at the taxi rank.
On arrival they found the boy, from the Kingsbridge area, had sustained serious injuries.
Members of the public went to the aid of the boy and commenced CPR before paramedics arrived. He was taken to Derriford Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
A 42-year-old man from the Kingsbridge area was located by police in Fore Street in the town at 9.40am and arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at Torquay police station.
Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team have launched a murder enquiry to establish the circumstances of the boy’s death.
Officers are speaking to a number of potential witnesses as part of the investigation and appealing for anyone who may have information to contact police.
Detective Inspector Ian Ringrose said: “We believe there were a lot of people in the area at the time of this incident. I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or the events before and after, to contact the police.
