Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted and a woman’s handbag was stolen in the Mutley area at the weekend.

A couple in their 20s were walking home at around 2.30am on Saturday 28 June when they were approached by a man at the junction with Sutherland Road and Restormel Road.

The man punched the male victim three times and grabbed the woman around the throat, before stealing her handbag and making off in the direction of the service lane behind Glen Park Avenue. He is described as white, early 20s, 5ft 7ins, of slim build with short ginger-brown hair and was wearing dark clothing.

The stolen bag is described as blue/grey, from Primark, and it contained a blue iPhone 5 and a navy-blue purse with cash, a number of cards including a debit card, a store card and a driving licence.

Anyone who witnessed this incident, or has any information, is asked to contact Detective Constable Summerfield at Charles Cross CID on 101, quoting crime number CR/085181/14.
