PEOPLE in Devon are being asked for their view on the county’s Highways and Transport services.
Devon County Council is one of 78 Local Authorities in England and Scotland taking part in the annual National Highways and Transport Public Satisfaction survey over the next few weeks.
It covers all aspects of local highway and transport services, from the condition of roads to the quality of local bus services.
It is the seventh year that the survey has been carried out and asks people across the country exactly the same questions, whether they live in Devon, Dorset or Derby.
This enables local authorities to compare results, share in best practice and identify opportunities to work together in the future.
The questionnaire will be sent to a random sample of around 6,400 Devon residents over the next week, followed by a reminder in July.
Residents that receive the questionnaire can complete the survey online if they prefer - a short URL link will be printed on the front of the questionnaire and they will be required to enter a code before completing the form.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “Although we are facing increasingly challenging times in terms of reduced budgets, we remain committed to providing value for money in maintaining our highway network and maintaining access to transport.
"Last year we were ranked the country’s top performing County Council for highways and transport services, and although the survey is not a league table of performance, it’s encouraging to hear local people’s views on how we’re doing.
"The results of the survey enable us to find out what residents think about these important services. The feedback can provide us with an understanding of what is important to people to help us identify services which we need to improve, to help us to prioritise, and also to see if there are opportunities of working more closely with other authorities.”
The survey is organised by the National Highways & Transport Network (NHT) and the South West Highways Service Improvement Group.
Since the survey is based on a sample, residents that receive a copy of the questionnaire are being urged to take part. Results are expected to be published by late October.
