Bantham's beach and estuary is up for sale and the National Trust is asking for the public's help to raise £2.6million to secure its future.

Calling Bantham on South Devon’s coast, "a very special place", the National Trust says that the "family-friendly beach, unspoilt views and abundance of wildlife have earned it a place in the hearts and memories of the many people who have lived in and visited it over the years".

A spokesman said: "Now the beach and its estuary are up for sale, with no guarantee that a new owner will continue to allow public access or care for this cherished place as carefully as its current owners have: much is at stake. You can help safeguard what makes Bantham beach and the Avon estuary so special and keep it open for ever, for everyone."

The National Trust has pledged £4m to buy Bantham Beach and the Avon estuary but need another £2.6m from the public.
