Thousands take part in Big Lunches across Devon

UNITING the community and putting people in touch . . . that’s the aim of organisers of a summer feast of food and fun in Tiverton who hope last Sunday’s Big Lunch will revolutionise the town.
Sunday saw an estimated four million communities across the UK sit down for a Big Lunch with neighbours they may not previously have known as part of Halifax’s Helping Britain Prosper Plan to make the event the UK’s largest annual lunch get-together.
Tiverton Town Football Club was a hive of activity with over 150 people enjoying music, food and other activities on the day.
Organiser Sarah Kittow said: “We had a great day and the weather was very kind to us.
“We had a range of fun activities for everyone, including a bouncy castle, a tombola and food shared between all the people present.
“We raised money for the Twyford Spartans disability football team, and many of the players were present on the day and got to meet Tiverton’s Mayor, who opened the Big Lunch.”
To reward those who gave extra and organised an event for their neighbours, Halifax made 10,000 free Big Lunch boxes available containing colourful themed balloons, bun-ting, tablecloths, plates and cups to create a real party atmosphere.
Over the years millions of people have taken part in Big Lunches and made real change in their communities, and Tiverton’s event attracted and entertained people of all ages.
Halifax is helping people give extra in their communities, whether by hosting a Big Lunch event or making their community a better place to live.
To recognise people who are giving that bit extra, Halifax is rewarding members of the public who make one of four pledges at www.halifax.co.uk/pledge
