DOCTORS and health professionals in Devon want people’s views on how mental health services could be run in the future.

The NHS and local authorities have launched a draft stra-tegy for 2014-17 for adult mental health services and want people’s thoughts.

It has been drawn up with service users and carers.

Four events are being run in June when people can meet those responsible for commissioning or buying mental health services and have their say, including two in Exeter on June 20 and June 24.

The first is at the ISCA Cen-tre at 2pm and the other is at Buckerell Lodge at 6.30pm.

GP Stephen Miller, Devon’s clinical lead for mental health, said: “We’d like people to have access to excellent mental health services, and we invite everyone to tell us what they think about our proposals.

“Alongside the core mental health services we recognise a need for local people and organisations, the NHS, local authorities and the voluntary sector to do the things that will support good mental health and wellbeing.

“This may include providing choices to promote good housing and a place in the community, strengthening families, enabling friendships, and supporting employment, activities and positive lifestyles.”
