BRITISH Heart Foundation (BHF) shops have partnered with the University of Exeter to launch a new scheme to encourage students to donate their unwanted items and help generate vital stock.

All of the profits raised will go towards the fight for every heartbeat and help to fund the BHF’s life-saving research. Through the scheme, the BHF will provide 36 donation bins, pop-up boxes and clothing banks at key drop off points located across the university campus.

To make the campaign a success, the University of Exeter is urging both students and staff to raid their wardrobes and household goods and donate any items that they no longer need.

BHF shops are always in need of clothing, shoes, accessories, CDs, DVDs, books, kitchenware and small electricals, such as hair-dryers and hair-straighteners.

Julie Paffett, Regional Stock Generator at the BHF, comments: “We’re looking forward to working alongside the University of Exeter to encourage students to donate their unwanted goods to us. This scheme will be a huge help to our shops in Exeter and I’d hope as many students as possible get involved and support the new scheme.

"Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer - you can join the fight for every heartbeat by having a clear out and using the new facilities to donate your unwanted items.”

Russell Hiscox, Assistant Residence Manager at the University of Exeter, adds: “This is the perfect opportunity for our students to be both charitable and environmentally friendly with their unwanted items. We hope that all our students and staff take advantage of this convenient new service by having a clear out and donating their unwanted items.”
