Hospiscare are grateful to Alcoa for their help in the development of their Retail Enterprise Centre in Marsh Barton.

The Alcoa Foundation contributes to non-profit organisations to improve the environment and educate tomorrow’s leaders.

In 2011 the Alcoa Foundation provided Hospiscare with a grant of US$100,000 for the Community Recycling and Social Enterprise Scheme.

This grant has helped with the development of a Retail Enterprise Centre used to sort charity donations, reduce landfill waste, offer volunteering and training opportunities in the community as well as raise vital funds for the hospice.

Hospiscare’s Chief Executive, Glynis Atherton, Enterprise Centre Manager, Paul O’Callaghan and Director of Income Generation, Kate Few-Singh met with Alcoa’s Exeter Community team earlier in the week to thank Alcoa for their generous grant.

Hospiscare staff showed Alcoa’s team around the Enterprise Centre and updated them on the charities aim to recycle all donations so that as little as possible is wasted and sent to landfill.

Nicola Acton – PA to Operations Director and UK Alcoa Foundation Lead said: “Alcoa Howmet Exeter employees, have always had a soft spot for Hospiscare here in Exeter, and when we heard about the charities plans to have an Enterprise Centre, we were delighted the Alcoa Foundation approved a $100,000 grant to make the dream a reality.

Following our recent ‘end of Project’ visit to the Enterprise Centre, it is certainly obvious that this Project is not at the end, and will continue to grow and evolve over many years to come and we hope we continue to be involved!”

Hospiscare are delighted that Alcoa are continuing to support the charity and are looking forward to running a Corporate Volunteering day for Alcoa staff in the near future.

Kate Few-Singh, Director of Income Generation said: ‘We would like to say a huge thank you to the Alcoa Foundation. It really has made a significant difference to our patients and their families, to improving the environment through reducing tipping waste locally and to the lives of those volunteers and staff involved.’’
