ON April, 20 the Exeter Phoenix Centre will be taken over by ‘Gemfest’ an indoor festival with something to suit everybody during the day and night.

The day starts at 11am with free activities for all the family including; arts and crafts, drama and dance workshops, puppet shows and much more! Local businesses have got involved to support the event by offering raffle prizes, activities to take part in and an array of performances to enjoy.

The Evening Indoor Music Festival kicks off at 6pm (doors open 5:30pm).

The line up includes local bands, DJs and comedians across an acoustic and main stage, comedy room and bar area.

Tickets are £12 (plus a 50p booking fee) and are available from the Exeter Phoenix Box Office and support local charity Hospiscare and The Brain Tumour Charity.

The event is organised by best friends Gemma Wensley and Susan Luscombe in support of 2 charities close to their hearts.

In 2010 Gemma developed an inoperable brain stem tumour and was given months to live.

The event started 2 years ago as a surprise 30th Birthday party for Gemma organised by best friend Susan.

The event is now open to the public and celebrating its 3rd year (2nd year as a public event).

Despite still undergoing chemotherapy Gemma’s tumour has miraculously shrunk and 4 years after her diagnosis she is full of life and an inspiration to those she meets.

Gemma said: "Our aim with Gemfest is to make it bigger and better every year until it reaches the point where it is a permanent fixture in everyone's diary! We have worked hard to make it appeal to all age ranges and tastes so EVERYONE can get involved!

‘’We are so excited about this year’s event and continue to be amazed by the support and generosity of the people of Exeter.

"Although very grateful and pleased with what we have achieved so far, we still need help spreading the word far and wide! The more people that come to Gemfest, the more money we can raise for these amazing charities!"

This year along with free use of the Exeter Phoenix centre, the financial backing of sponsors; Ashfords Solicitors, Exeter Family Friendly and Shipman Financial Planning Ltd and support from Hospiscare and The Brain Tumour Charity the pair are hoping to raise more than ever!

The profits will be split 50/50 between The Brain Tumour Charity and local charity Hospiscare who offered specialist care and support to Gemma during her darkest days.

Entry during the day is free. Tickets for the Indoor Music Festival are available from the Exeter Phoenix Centre Box Office.
