MEMBERS of Tiverton Golf Club visited Pine Lodge recently to present the Mid Devon day hospice with a cheque for £3,834.

This year’s golf club captain, Martin Selby, presented the cheque to nurse-in-charge Emma Fisher after choosing Hospiscare as his Captain’s Charity of the Year.

Misdemeanours on or off the golf course, such as using mobile phones in the clubhouse or hitting a ball into a particular bunker, saw members fined over the year with all money going to the charity.

Martin said: “The club members have kept a pretty low profile this year, but we’ve still raised nearly £4,000.

“We also raised money on a Captain’s Day in June.

“We had a dinner dance where everyone put money in for a draw prize and we raised £500 that night.

“It’s lovely to see money being raised for a local cause. Sadly, a lot of people have to use Hospiscare.

“It’s great for us to visit Pine Lodge – a fantastic facility – and you can see that everyone’s so dedicated.”

This year’s ladies captain, Antonina Hajduk, presented Unite with a cheque for more than £1,000 after choo-sing the charity as the Lad-ies Captain’s Charity of the Year.

Emma Fisher said: “The amount raised by Tiverton Golf Club is absolutely fantastic.

“With both Pine Lodge and the golf club being based at Post Hill we’re very happy that our neighbours have chosen to support our day hospice.

“The services we offer at Pine Lodge, such as assisted bathing, complimentary therapies and a freshly cooked meal, are just as important as the advice and support we offer to both our patients and their families.

“We can’t thank the members of the golf club enough for what they’ve raised this year, which will help us continue to provide high-quality, free care and support to Hospiscare patients in Mid Devon.”
