Mid Devon Star: Rob Baxter inspires students Rob Baxter inspires students

EXETER Chiefs rugby coach Rob Baxter visited Queen Elizabeth’s Community College, Crediton, last month, to talk about his car-eer path and approach to coaching.

He spoke to the school’s Aspire Group about their talents, passions and what they thought could bring them success in life.

The Aspire Scholars Programme is aimed at enriching the curriculum for the most academically able sixth formers, and supporting those applying to the most competitive universities or for the most competitive courses.

Students can apply to join when in Year 11 or when enrolling for the sixth form.

Rob described his education path and early career choices, emphasising the importance of taking opportunities as they come up.

After successfully captaining the Chiefs at a time when the skipper did a lot of coaching, he was able to move into coaching as a career.

He completed all the coaching qualifications available and his expertise became apparent as he talked more about his coaching role.

Margaret Moran Mylett, Aspire Leader, said “This was such an interesting talk for the students, a number of whom play rugby, and teachers, since it dealt with matters key to education – engagement and motivation.

“I feel confident in saying every member of the audience went away inspired.”
